It’s about 11:30AM on Saturday and we’ve just touched down at London’s Heathrow airport. We’re en route to Athens to meet the MS Sirena, the newest Oceania Cruises “R-class” ship. But before Athens we’ll enjoy two nights at the 45 Park Lane Hotel, see Book of Mormon in the West End and splurge on Afternoon Tea at the Dorchester Hotel.
This is the final weekend of the “official” festivities of the Queen’s 90th birthday including a Trooping of the Colors parade on The Mall and the Patron’s lunch in Green Park. There’s also the huge Summertime Ball at Wembley and other outdoor events all over the city – welcome to summer in London!
The stay at 45 Park Lane was great – we really enjoy this small, boutique hotel. It’s perfectly located to enjoy the Royal Parks, shop at Harrods or wander around nearby Sheppard Market. Just a few steps from the Piccadilly line, you can easy be in Leicester Square or Convent Garden in a quick tube ride. The “Grand Dame”, Dorchester Hotel right across the street is certainly one of the more stately in London. With over 200 rooms and oozing of “old”, this property is much different than 45 Park Lane. The Afternoon Tea is definitely a unique experience, perfect for a special occasion or just a nice splurge next time you are in London.
