Celebrity Cruises recently shared a first look at its much-awaited Edge class of ships, the first new design for the premium brand since the Solstice class was created in 2006.
Celebrity Edge and its unique set of features are being revealed a little at a time. The ship will showcase a very unique design with far more expansive spaces and an asymmetry of layout that is less common in the industry.
As part of an exclusive partnership, design icon Nate Berkus was brought on board as the Design Ambassador. Designer Kelly Hoppen took the design lead on the accommodations and Tom Wright was the architect.
Celebrity Edge will begin 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings in December 2018.
All voyages are now open for booking.
New Public Spaces & Amenities
While not all of the features have been revealed, some high-profile amenities like the Magic Carpet, are among the most exciting of the innovations.
Magic Carpet
Possibly the most unique feature of Celebrity Edge is the Magic Carpet, a traveling platform capable of seating 90 guests for dinner that will be cantilevered off the side of the ship and move between decks. The size of a tennis court, this engineering feat is the world’s first cantilevered venue that travels 13 stories. It will change function depending on which deck it docks. The uses range from a specialty restaurant to an extension of the pool deck to a loading dock for tender operations.
Resort Deck and Pool
The Resort Deck offers endless ways to enjoy the outdoors and connect with the sea. It includes everything from an asymmetrical outward-facing pool deck to a jogging track that winds up, down, and around the new Rooftop Garden.
Surrounding the pool area, high-ceilinged cabanas face out to sea for private retreats. Guests can lounge in two-story martini hot tubs, in-pool loungers, or take a dip in the 25-yard lap pool, the largest in Celebrity’s fleet.
A larger-than-life artistic mirror installation designed by Tom Wright – an ever-changing, abstract piece – is positioned above the Pool Bar.
Rooftop Garden
The Rooftop Garden, tended to daily by a resident horticulturist, is the place for guests to enjoy interactive games and activities throughout the day, or enjoy an evening movie at A Taste of Film, where food and film merge, and pop-up live music performances from the unexpected treetop sculptures. The Rooftop Grill will feature gourmet burgers, brisket, and BBQ.
The Retreat
The Retreat will be exclusively available to suite guests. This spacious outdoor lounge area features The Retreat Pool and The Retreat Pool Bar, with stylish furniture, a full-sized pool, and a hot tub. Beyond the outdoor area will be Luminae @ The Retreat, a private restaurant with menus crafted by Celebrity’s own Michelin-starred Chef Cornelius Gallagher.
New Suites & Staterooms
Suites comprise five percent of accommodations aboard Celebrity cruise ships, but the Edge will tout 12 percent and introduce new suite and stateroom categories.
Iconic Suites
The two Iconic Suites feature nearly 2,600 total square feet of space across two bedrooms and two bathrooms each and with 82 linear feet of panoramic glass enveloping the entire dining room, living room and bedroom for striking panoramic views. They sit above the navigational bridge with 700-square-foot verandas and 270-degree forward-facing views.
Edge Villas
Edge Villas, are 950 square feet two-deck loft cabins with one bedroom and two bathrooms with two stories of windows. Featuring a private outdoor terrace and a plunge pool, the Edge Villas also offer immediate access to The Retreat Sundeck.
Infinite Veranda Stateroom
Celebrity is introducing a new class of stateroom with its Infinite Veranda Stateroom. The unique design features an innovative veranda space that can be divided from the rest of the stateroom with sectional French doors or remain fully open. When open, the interior can extend to the edge of the ship via a window that opens down to become a railing. The design also allows for a king-size bed in every stateroom.
Celebrity Edge Itineraries Open for Booking
Celebrity Edge will sail two Caribbean itineraries beginning in December 2018 and departing from its home port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. All sailings are now open for booking, including its inaugural sailing on December 9, 2018.
